I offer guitar lessons, banjo lessons, mandolin and ukulele lessons in Bridlington, Scarborough and the surrounding areas.

I have been a professional performer and teacher for more than 20 years and still divide my time between teaching and performing. I feel that performing keeps my teaching fresh and inspiring, as working alongside other performers and with other musicians opens my eyes and ears to new possibilities.

I cover most genres - americana, folk, blues, country, pop, bluegrass, new acoustic and singer-songwriter..

I am a fully qualified guitar teacher and have taught in primary schools and secondary schools as well as in colleges and adult education, I devise specially tailored programmes for children and young learners, keeping things lively and fun. For my adult students I focus on the individual's personal musical preferences whilst working within a progressive and coherent musical framework.

People learn to play instruments for all sorts of reasons, so I can help you whether you want to:

* Learn to play for your own enjoyment or to play along with friends.

* Form your own band or play at open mics and acoustic clubs.

* Learn solos, instrumentals, rhythm styles or song accompaniment skills.

* Learn your instrument alongside relevant music theory.

* Work towards London College of Music grades in acoustic guitar.

* Write and record your own songs.

* Improve and develop existing skills.

guitar lessons

I am a guitar teacher for Bridlington, Scarborough and surrounding areas.

If you are a new player of acoustic or electric guitar I can start you from the very beginning in your chosen style or genre, working in a creative but structured way.

If you already play, i can help you to overcome weaknesses in technique and introduce new skills and styles of playing.

For more experienced players, I can help you to develop right hand and left hand fluency, and can teach more advanced techniques in flatpicking, fingerpicking and strumming styles. I can also help you to explore open and altered tunings and create your own instrumentals and song accompaniments.

I am a registered tutor with RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors) and can offer tuition towards RGT/London College of Music examinations.

banjo lessons

I am a banjo teacher for Bridlington, Scarborough and surrounding areas.

I teach 5-string banjo from beginner to advanced level. I teach both of the two main styles of playing, namely clawhammer and three finger styles.

Clawhammer banjo - sometimes referred to as frailing - is a style of playing used in American traditional music. It is a rhythmic style, great for playing tunes and song accompaniments.

Three-finger style, which is much used in bluegrass music, is another traditional American style popularised by platers such as Earl Scruggs. It is also used for playing tunes and for song accompaniment.

For players new to the banjo I can discuss and demonstrate both styles and students can choose to learn one or both.

The mandolin and ukulele are currently enjoying a surge in popularity and I can offer tuition in both.

For students of the mandolin I can teach folk and American styles in which the mandolin is used to play both the melody and chordal accompaniment.

The ukulele is used mainly to accompany songs and I can teach the strumming styles that make this a simple and fun instrument to play.

As well as providing guitar lessons in Scarborough and Bridlington, I also host an Acoustic Club in Bridlington where I encourage new acoustic talent to try out their performance skills.

I welcome all ages and abilities - my students currently range from 6 to 82 years of age!

I am a registered tutor with RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors) and can offer tuition towards RGT/London College of Music exams in acoustic guitar.  I teach from my own spacious studio in Bridlington.

I hold current CRB clearance and Public Liability Insurance.

All lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis and most students come weekly for a one hour or half hour lesson.

My current rates are £20 per hour or £12 per half hour.

Hello Sarah. I teach from my home studio in Bridlington. My fees are £20 for an hour or £12 for half an hour. Shared lessons are tricky and not usually as productive as one to one as people learn at different rates. However if you did want to share, it would be £30 for an hour or £18 for half an hour. For younger learners I prefer a parent/guardian to be present for the lesson as this makes structured practice more profitable.I have been a professional musician for the last twenty years. Prior to that I taught in several schools in Devon and Hampshire and for the Adult Education service in West Yorkshire. If you would like to book a lesson you can contact me on 01262 674303 Look forwards to hearing from you.Pete Bolton.
Hello, I am looking for an enthusiastic teacher to teach my boys (twins) of 10 to play an instument. They are not in any way sporty and we need to find them an interest / focus. I think guitar, keyboard or drums may be of interest to them. They are not too keen joining any after school activities, probably due to the fact that they love to spend far too much time on their electronic gaming machines. I do believe with encouragement and on finding new confidence they may just love it. If not we will have to move on to something else. We are not pushy parents, but, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you would be interested in taking on such a task I would be grateful if you would forward some prices for me and what you could offer. Thank you in advance Karen Lincoln -Williams p.s.They are reasonably are bright and good mannered children

Hello. Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been away for a few days. Thanks for your enquiry. I'm sure that if your sons decided that the guitar was the instrument they wanted to learn (I don't teach keyboard or drums) I would be able to help them. However I do feel that the impetus to learn a particular instrument needs to come from the child themself. From experience I can say that lessons are not usually successful if the parent has made the decision as to which instrument the child should learn. Please have a look at my website at and feel free to contact me if you would like to arrange something. Many thanks
